Harold Benjamin Layne, at 92, having enjoyed a long life, passed away peacefully, Sunday night, the first of October, 2017.
Harold was born in Mart, Texas, 3/1/1925, but, was almost a New Mexican. He was a member of Sigma Chi at the University of New Mexico, where he graduated with a BS in Electrical Engineering and went to Officer's training at Notre Dame. Harold joined the Navy in Santa Fe to serve in World War II, as LTJG Engineer of the USS Admiral W. S. Benson.
After the war, he became a Corrosion Engineer for Shell Pipeline and worked with them for 40 years in Houston, Texas.  In 1949, he married Patricia DeFranza, (nee Kerwin) and they spent 57 years together. They moved from Houston to Santa Fe in 2002.  Pat preceded him in death in 2006.
At 90, Harold moved to The Montecito Santa Fe and enjoyed life in Assisted Living with his Cat, Tunafish (Tunie).
Harold and Pat are survived by four children: Mary Layne of Santa Fe, Anne Bergeron and her husband, Ben, of Houston, Texas, John Layne and his wife, Janet, of Pecos, NM and Paul Layne and his wife, Penny, of Houston. They are also survived by: 9 Grandchildren and 6 great-Grandchildren: Kelly Layne and his wife, Bethany, of Houston, Texas and their two children, Benjamin and Beatrice;  Stephanie Layne Disney and her husband, Andrew, of Pasadena, California and their two children, Ford and Knox;  Corey Layne of Los Angeles, California;  Lizzie Layne of Houston, Texas;  Kevin Layne and his fiancee, Hannah Taylor, of Houston, Texas and Caroline Layne of Houston, Texas.   Also, Ryan Bergeron and his wife, Julie,  of Houston, Texas and their daughter, Annie; Lauren Bergeron of Houston, Texas and Patrick Bergeron and his wife, Cara, of Houston, Texas.

A viewing will be held at 6 p.m. and Rosary at 7 p.m. Monday at:
Berardinelli Family Funeral Services, 1399 Luisa Street, Santa Fe, NM 87505.
Funeral will be held there Tuesday 12:00 -1:00 and Military Honors at 1:30 at the National Cemetery.
