David E. Rael, Sr., age 86, of La Cienega, passed away February 19, 2018. He was preceded in death by his parents, Melisendro & Phyllis Rael, wife Rita, siblings, John, Ann, Tony, Mel, Leroy, and Betty, and granddaughter Ann. He is survived by his sisters, Josephine, Connie, Louise, and Gerry, his children, Terrie (Bob) Larwood, David Rael, Jr., Melissa (Phil) Garcia, Jennifer (Peter) Sandoval, and Michele (Tom) Larrabee, grandchildren, Alexis, Zane, Ashley, Julianna, Moriah, Seth, Amelia, Katelyn, Hannah, and Grace, and great grandson, Liam.
A special thank you to his nephew, Stephen Bornman for visiting and caring for him, and to Ruth Sandoval for being a dear friend.
David served in the army during the Korean War. After the war he worked for his brother Tony delivering frozen food in Northern New Mexico. He later worked for the State of New Mexico from which he retired. He was a carpenter, mechanic, and gardener who built his own home in La Cienega in 1965 when he married Rita and began raising his five children.
A visitation will be held at Berardinelli Family Chapel at 7:00 pm on March 4, 2018. A mass will be held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church at 9:00 am on March 5, 2018, followed by internment at The Santa Fe National Cemetery.
