April 8, 1933 – November 23, 2017
After enjoying an early Thanksgiving meal, Jay Willson died unexpectedly of cardiac arrest near his home in Santa Fe, New Mexico Thursday afternoon.
Jay was born in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. He went to boarding school in New Hampshire and graduated from Harvard College in 1955. He later received an MBA from the University of Michigan in 1960.
Jay married Gail Sisson in December 1956, and moved to the Chicago area in 1960. He worked at financial and investment companies throughout the 60’s and early 70’s, eventually working at the Securities and Exchange Commission from 1974-1979. He served in the Department of Justice from 1979-1982.
Jay and his wife raised 3 children while living in Illinois, then moved to Egg Harbor, Wisconsin in the 1980’s. Jay and Gail lived briefly in North Carolina and enjoyed winters in Santa Fe before moving to live full time in New Mexico in 1992.
Jay loved the outdoors; he enjoyed sailing, skiing, and fishing throughout much of his life. He also loved opera, classical music, and gourmet foods. He was a history fanatic and voracious reader. He was also a fan of the National Hockey League and Green Bay Packers football team.
Jay is survived by his wife, three children, and two grandchildren, plus his three sisters and their families. A private memorial service is planned for a later date.
