Tribute

Rosalia (Rosie) Lugardita Ortiz, 1933-2019 – Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away surrounded by her loving family.  Rosie was born on August 8, 1933 in La Joya, New Mexico to Cornelio and Andreita Lopez.  She is survived by her loving husband Victor Ortiz, Sr., children Patricia (Charlie), Tommy, Barbara, Pauline (Davy), Victor, Jr. (Emily), Marcellino (Lynn), Adrian (Jennifer), fifteen grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.  Rosie is survived by her brothers and sisters, Susie Madrid, Mercy Gonzales (Tommy), Virginia Lopez, Ben Lopez (Ramona), brothers-in law, Alfonso Garcia, Bob Velasquez, and Jacinto Ortiz, sisters-in-law, Lori Lopez, Angelica Lopez, Josie Lopez, Lucy Lopez, Cecilia Lopez and Helen Ortiz, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and special friends (Rosita Romero and Polly Ortiz).  She is preceded in death by her parents along with her siblings; Teresa Abeyta, Marcelina Garcia, Ezekiel Lopez, Gene Lopez, Percy Lopez, Angie Montoya, Arthur Lopez, Jerry Lopez.  She is preceded in death by her daughter-in-law Georgia Ortiz, sisters and brothers-in-law Susie and Ernestino Varela, Evan and Elijio Gonzales, Preciliano and Sylvia Ortiz, Filepita and Ricardo Ortiz.

Throughout her life, Rosie was employed by the Pecos Schools, Glorieta Conference Center, and served as a personal chef to Mr. and Mrs. E.E. Buddy Fogelson at the Forked Lightening Ranch.  She loved cooking for family, relatives, and neighbors.  Rosie enjoyed morning and afternoon walks, and she had a great sense of humor.  Rosie enjoyed her trips to Utah through the years to visit with her extended family.  She modeled strong Catholic faith in her ability to always help families in whichever way she could.  She was a devoted member of the Sacred Heart Society at the Sagrada Familia Mission church in Rowe.  The family would like to thank the Mi Casa Bonita owners and staff, Ambercare Hospice, and Shirley and Isabelle Tafoya for their loving care of our mother.  Special thanks to all of you who continued to keep Rosie in your prayers, and making time to visit and call her.  She appreciated all of your support.
